The Prince - The Classic Text on the Politics of Power
Published posthumously in 1532, Machiavelli's treatise on the manipulation and exercise of power advocated a ruthless realpolitik, sparking a debate about the morality of statesmanship that is still very much alive today.
His shrewd text presents strategies that some of history's greatest - and most infamous - rulers have borrowed to achieve their goals. The Prince continues to show enduring popularity among anyone interested in the theory of leadership and power.
About the Author
Niccolo Machiavelli was born in Florence in 1469. He was one of the foremost historians, philosophers and writers of the Italian Renaissance, but it was by working as an official in the Florentine Government that he made his living. Advising princes was a dangerous game, and after the Medici retook the city he found himself exiled until his death in 1527.
